Fred Armisen is Seth Meyers' New 'Late Night' Bandleader

The music of Questlove and The Roots lent 'Late Night' some of the show's most memorable moments. As Seth Meyers steps in for Jimmy Fallon, he will bring Fred Armisen with him to take the musical torch.

Armisen will sing and play guitar at the head of a five-piece group on the rebooted, 'Late Night.' The comedian is known for his roles on SNL and Portlandia, however he also has an impressive musical history. The multi-instrumentalist played drums in punk band Trenchmouth and the Blue Man Group, and features music in much of his comedy.

Still not convinced of Fred's musical prowess? Check out this behind-the-scenes clip from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where Fred and Questlove compete in an unsanctioned, bare-knuckle drumoff:

The Roots are not out of work--they will follow Fallon to the 'Tonight Show' when it launches on February 17th. Armisen and Seth will kick off their run on 'Late Night' the following week, on February 24th.
