Minneapolis Armory Renovations = New Concert Venue

The Minneapolis Armory has hosted events ranging from major concerts to Minneapolis Lakers games to bowling championships. It has narrowly escaped destruction and conversion into a prison and currently acts as a parking lot for downtown office workers. Now the building's storied history continues as managers push to convert it into a new concert venue.

The National Parks Service recently approved plans to repair the historic structure's roof. Once repaired, the Armory could welcome a variety of concerts, galas, and athletic events, serving the community as thoroughly as it did when it was first built in 1935.

If plans progress, roof repairs will begin in late summer with full renovations projected for completion by next May. Amidst a city rife with new construction (Vikings Stadium, Wells Fargo Office Park, etc.), we're all for preserving a little bit of local history.
