A recent partnership with (RED) and Bank of America has allowed U2 to release their new song “Invisible” in a commercial during the Super Bowl that will raise money to fight AIDS.
Immediately following the song’s Super Bowl debut, it will be available as a free download on iTunes for the following 24 hours. Bank of America has agreed to donate $1 for each song download (up to $2 million) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Bono co-founded (RED) in 2006 with Bobby Shriver and the organization shares the goal of eradicating child transmission of HIV by 2015 with the Global Fund. After this Super Bowl, (RED) is expected to surpass a total of a quarter-billion dollars raised to fight these diseases.
Bank of America’s donation commitment spurred further donations from the Gates Foundation, SAP and Africa’s Motsepe Family totaling $22 million.
