For some, the "polar vortex" is making life outside less bearable than prison. Robert Vick, 42, of Hartford KY escaped from a six-year sentence at the Blackburn Correctional Center into a worse type of punishment: the frigid temps.
Vick, charged for burglary and criminal possession of a forged instrument, escaped his minimum security facility on Sunday. Kentucky's 20 below zero wind chill readings prompted Vick to turn himself back in to prison the next day! Clad only in prison-issued khaki pants, a shirt and jacket, the escapee walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police.
"This was definitely of his own volition…it's cold out there, too cold to run around. I can understand why the suspect would turn himself in." Said one paramedic who treated Vick for hypothermia.
